July 10th. At NKB Cycle in Mira Mesa. http://www.nkbmotorcycles.com/index2.cgi

I believe pre-registration for a dyno tune is $250, and day-of-event is $275.

Many know that I swear by this guy. He's done past tunes at Buymoto, GP Motorcycles, South Bay Cycle (name?), and others. His dyno is 'automated', so that it's a PERFECT tune every time.

Ask ANYONE that has had thier bikes tuned by Louie, they'll tell you, he's the best.

Hell, call Power Commander themselves, and ask who is the best in the West Coast? They'll tell you, Louie.

Most shops just throw on different internet maps, and whatever makes the most peak wide-open-throttle power, wins! That's bullsh*t! As it doesn't do anything for your low-midrange and part throttle. His automated dyno computer tells him what throttle input to hold the bike at, and the computer calculates the perfect map, at all rpms, at all throttle imputs of your Power Commader (250rpms at a time).

I won't be there (will be out of town), but hope you guys are. Really, he's the best of the best.

Damn, I'd like to have him tune the Duc but I doubt I'll have it back by then.    Undecided

Chip, you're using a PC USB, or PCV?

I wonder, maybe, if you call Louie, you can possibly buy a map for a 1098 w/ Termignoni slips on's for much cheaper. It won't be *perfect, perfect*, but it may be pretty darn close.

Not using either one yet.  Looks like the PCV is only for 1198?  DynoJet's website only lists the PCIII USB for the 1098...

To my knowledge, you can put a PCV on a 1098. It's the 'same' bike as an 1198, just with a bigger motor w/ hotter cams.

I actually wasn't impressed with Louie's tune.  He's probably the best for 95% of bikes out there, but my MV needed some special attention even after a tune from Louie.
I ended up taking it to Shanon at Motorcycle Dynamics who did a *real* custom tune - manual adjustment of each throttle position by hand throughout the rpm range until it was perfect.

I know he has a great rep, and I'm sure he does a great job on most bikes, but at a typical even he only has 45 minutes per bike so you may not get the attention you need.

Oh - to his credit, Louie did say that he had problems with my bike - the AF ratio was still very rich in spots and lean in others.  At least he was aware it wasn't perfect when he handed it back to me.

Mine still has some rough spots too, but admittedly it was much more cumbersome for him to tune my Tuneboy setup on the Triumph than his usual Power Commander maps.   It runs nice and strong and smooth most of the time, but has a few weird spots here and there particularly at small throttle openings.

I'd say both bikes deffanantly fall with in that 5% of not being a normal tune. I'm going to give him a try on the gixx though.

Before a tune, I always recommend the following;

Oil change
Remove side fairings
If a street bike, run a bottle of Seafoam or Redlines Complete Fuel System Cleaner and 3 gallons of gas through the bike to clean out the injectors/valves (if your bike has more than 10k miles)
Clean chain
45-50 psi in rear tire (more for consistancy)

Cryptyk - it sounds like your t/b's needed to be sync'd before you went to get your bike tuned.
